It’s important to get crown lengthening (also known as crown exposure) when a tooth needs a new crown or another type of restoration. When the restoration area is too far below the gums, or too close to the bone, the crown needs to be lengthened in order to reach it. That’s when your regular dentist, the one restoring your crown, refers you to a periodontist for crown lengthening.
